Is there cause for concern

Yes, there is.

Ivy has been asleep for a very long time. And while we had moments  seconds of what seemed like she was aware of her surroundings, nodding yes and no, even if for just a few seconds, today her eyes still wander when lifted open. She has a very invasive bi pap mask on that is blowing a hurricane in to her and she does not protest it or even reach for it. They say that the drugs are in her tissue and she could just need more time. However they were very quick to comply to my request of Neurology coming out to take a look at her. I'm so thankful that they include me in every decision and every plan. They never round without me, if I run to the restroom (there are none on in her unit), they wait, knowing I will be here. They always ask me if I have questions or concerns and they always spend as much time with me as I need.
She is getting an Echo right now, just to be sure all is well with her heart, and she will get a full eval from Neurology this afternoon.
A music therapist came in today and played for her. Thank you Jen for setting that up!!! At PCH they use classical music as therapy for the healing process from day 1. Here they have no such thing. And PT and Child Life were in the room from day one too at PCH. Here we have not seen Child Life or any therapists at all and it's been 2 weeks. I think that is odd for the #1 hospital in the world, but we know they get that rating from the medical aspect. And it is well deserved!!

Due to not breathing more than just shallow breaths (since she is in this deep sleep) her right lung has collapsed. It is a little better this morning, but still the bottom half is fully collapsed.

Her body is not urinating on its own, she is requiring a cath again. She was without it for several days but after going all day Monday without making a wet diaper, they put the foley back in Monday night.

She does move her arms and legs, she does turn her head. This happens every 3-4 hours for a few seconds, then back to sleep with no movement she goes.

So my prayer requests today are obvious and desperate.

I have sobbed with a very heavy heart this morning. My little girl has been through so much. And she can't wake up to breathe on her own! I'm crying out to God today. I'm asking that He agree that she's been through enough. That He breathe life back in to her little body and reignite her spirit! That we see Ivy come back to us, today!

My prayer request to all of your are obvious.
That Ivy would wake up.
That from a neurological view, there is no cause for alarm.
That God would continue to breath life in to her lung and her body.
And that God would continue to give me the strength that only He can provide. I have nothing left to give, but every day He makes me new again. I am empty at 1am as I lay my head on my pillow but at 5am I rise anew again. Filled with the strength to get through one more day.

If you feel led to leave a comment today. I ask that you direct it towards what you will be praying for or towards Ivy.
Today I just don't have the strength to read things like.. its going to be fine, you can do this, your strong......
Until you have sat right here in these very shoes in this very situation at this very moment...You have no idea.

I will be in great prayer today and my faith will be renewed and I will be reminded that when I am weak He is strong. For faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. Hebrews 11:1

What I do know is that princess Ivy has been on such a huge journey {for the Lord} and her little body needs rest right now! HE alone knows the perfect moment to wake her up with a bright smile on her sweet face! HE directed you all to Boston and I'm so thankful for that! Will continue to pray and believe in complete healing for Ivy Joy!

  15. Dear lord I pray you allow Ivy to start to show signs that she is going to wake up and be the healthy little girl that her family has prayed for! As a nurse I know how hard it is Lord for parents to wait, and watch, and hope and to repeat the process. I also know that Ivy has A LOT of meds on board and what she is doing is normal. I pray Lord you wrap your arms around her mama, let her know you are right there with her and that her precious baby girl, a true gift and miracle from you, is going to perfectly ok:) Amen!

  20. Dear Lord, where do I begin. I am praying for you and for baby Ivy. She is beautiful girl! I have sat in your seat, I sat there saying all that you said today and more. I cried next to an isolete asking god to heal and telling my sweet baby boy that it was OK for him to give up and go be with God in Heaven. It was ok for him to stop fighting because I didn't want to be greedy and him suffer because I wanted a baby so badly. I have sat where you sit today. I am praying for you and Gods hands to reach down and touch the doctors who will help Ivy wake up and hug you soon.

    Psalm 34
    1 I will extol the Lord at all times;
    his praise will always be on my lips.
    2 I will glory in the Lord;
    let the afflicted hear and rejoice.
    3 Glorify the Lord with me;
    let us exalt his name together.

    4 I sought the Lord, and he answered me;
    he delivered me from all my fears.
    5 Those who look to him are radiant;
    their faces are never covered with shame.
    6 This poor man called, and the Lord heard him;
    he saved him out of all his troubles.
    7 The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him,
    and he delivers them.

    8 Taste and see that the Lord is good;
    blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.
    9 Fear the Lord, you his holy people,
    for those who fear him lack nothing.
    10 The lions may grow weak and hungry,
    but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.
    11 Come, my children, listen to me;
    I will teach you the fear of the Lord.
    12 Whoever of you loves life
    and desires to see many good days,
    13 keep your tongue from evil
    and your lips from telling lies.
    14 Turn from evil and do good;
    seek peace and pursue it.

    15 The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous,
    and his ears are attentive to their cry;
    16 but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil,
    to blot out their name from the earth.

    17 The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them;
    he delivers them from all their troubles.
    18 The Lord is close to the brokenhearted
    and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

    19 The righteous person may have many troubles,
    but the Lord delivers him from them all;
    20 he protects all his bones,
    not one of them will be broken.

    21 Evil will slay the wicked;
    the foes of the righteous will be condemned.
    22 The Lord will rescue his servants;
    no one who takes refuge in him will be condemned.

  31. Mary,

    What you are going through requires something beyond the limits of human strength. My daughter had two brain surgeries over the summer, and I remember feeling like the bottom had fallen out underneath me. There were times I didn't know where the strength to make it to the next minute would come from. Your situation with Ivy is longer and more complicated and ours was, so I can't even imagine how you are feeling.

    I will pray of course for Ivy's little body: that the echo shows good news, that the neuro team has no cause for concern, that her lung begins to function better, that she wakes up when the time is right and she is calm. I will pray for YOU: the strength to make it through each day, even if you have to take it minute by minute, gratitude, rather than desperation, to fill your heart, and the ability to reframe your scary thoughts and feelings into peaceful ones.

    In some of the scariest moments with my daughter's medical issues, when I was overcome with pure fear, I would go back to square one and think of all the things that had gone RIGHT in her life. All the details that had brought us together and to the place we were at currently. When I looked at the big picture, it helped me see that we were just where we were supposed to be. Our little girl had not beaten all the odds so far for no reason, and neither has yours.

    Our family has continued to keep yours in our thoughts and prayers.

  32. I was praying before falling asleep last night, I woke up praying this morning and will continue to pray for your precious Ivy. Praying for her, for her family. Praying they are all held closely, find peace from worries and that Miss Ivy bless her family with those bright eyes they are waiting to see.

    Today I will be sure to stop at church and light a candle for Ivy and one for her mama too. I will have them burn until they go home.

    So many prayers sent your way,

  33. Thank you Lord, that you never sleep. Thank you that we know that because you watch over even the sparrows, you certainly watch over the treasure of our precious Ivy. Lord, help us in those deep places of unbelief and replace them with a greater faith than we've ever known. Thank you Lord for the glimmers of hope you've given along the way in keeping Ivy alive, not only to get her home from China, but even for the precise number of days she needed to bring her to this place of help.... for the surgeon's eyes to see stiches that needed to be clipped... for the calmness that floods over Ivy when her mommy is near. We choose to trust you today and find comfort knowing that you were involved in every detail that led to this moment. I pray Lord that you would have mercy on Mary in these moments of overwhelming weakness and give her another comforting glance into all you are doing in the "unseen". Thank you, Lord, especially... that your grace is sufficient for this very moment, and for all the moments to come.... for Ivy... for Mary... and for all of us that have come to love her so much! Give us all overwhelming joy in places where it is least expected. And let that joy cause the unbelieving world to wonder at such great a God as YOU! We are convinced that regardless of how You choose to answer our prayers, Your glory will be on full display. May it shine brighter now, than ever!

    Praying for you, precious friend! Lori McCary

I thank you for this times when you draw us in so close to you that we are unable to miss the miracle. Show all your glory and power, when all are watching so closely that we see your the giver of life. I pray that you speak over her and command perfect life and function into her body. We proclaim that you are Lord of Lords and Kings of Kings! That you have a perfect plan with perfect timing. I pray for understanding of that in the waiting time Lord God for her family. I lastly ask for the Holy spirit to comfort and strengthen trust in her parents hearts.

Praying specifically for Ivy to open those beautiful eyes and for her to be herself, that she will begin to breathe without assistance except for oxygen and that her collapsed lung would improve and that you Lord would help ease Ivy's mama heart and comfort her family as they are going through this trials. Please Lord help guide the nurses and doctor's in as they help Ivy navigate her way back to us. In Jesus name we pray fervently and unceasingly-Amen!

    Hugs to you Mary!

  90. Just read this during my quiet time today and underlined it. I hope it helps in some way.... Psalm 130:5 "I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I put my hope. My soul waits for the Lord, more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning." My bible summarized this verse by saying "He poured out his heart to God because he was certain of his love and care--more certain than night watchmen were that night would end and dawn would come." Praying for your family and that sweet baby girl! Brandi in SC

  98. I have in fact walked in your shoes and have been EXACTLY where you are. Mei is from Shaanxi and has extremely complex heart disease. Mei also, had been on so much paralysis, pain and even antipsychotic meds (from being in the the ICU for so many months....) that she would not wake up either. Sometimes she would stare off into space and drool. Our lowest point for sure. Neurology came to see us and explain that she might never improve or that she might slowly wake up. One day she started pushing on my husband with her foot, even while gaze was so removed. Then she started signing g a little bit and finally smiles came. I am not telling you that everything will be fine.....I know the reality too well. However, I am telling you that there is reason for hope. Keep talking to her....Ivy is in there trying to see through a heavy fog of meds and trauma. Please, if you need support or need to ask questions or advice, please contact me. Mei spent three months in ICU recovering from a surgery that very few have survived and none her age. You are walking a difficult lonely road.....I always have felt so humbled that God chose me to love and take care of Mei, but very few understand the roller coaster that recovery is. My email is wheresella@yahoo.com. Be well , my prayers are for your strength and Ivy's awareness. Love to both of you from Mei-Ni and Joanne.

  103. Mary - you are 100% correct in that none of us truly understand what you're going through. While some have similar experiences, you have been clearly through so much on this one and my prayer to God is that he continue to guide the doctors, help all to know just what this sweet angel needs, and that God breathes live into sweet Ivy Joy. Each day I look at my Alexandria and my heart aches for you because no matter what, your angel is not home and fully healthy. I pray to our God that it is His plan to heal her little body. I pray for little Ivy's eyes to open and for both of you to come home soon. I truly hug Alexandria harder and pray that soon you will be here and all will be well. I have no concept of how you do it but I do pray and pray hard for sweet Ivy Joy to wake up and heal from our Father's touch.

    God please heal Ivy Joy and bring them home soon all healthy, safe and sound.

  109. Ivy Joy... you were given this life, from the Lord. My prayer today is that the Lord brought you your Mommy from the US for a purpose, for a reason, an that reason is so that the Lord sees fit to restore you to a full life, a life that is full of Birthdays and Christmas and Halloween, and playing and laughing and loving and of course, being an imp. Everything that makes your parents hearts soar with joy.

    We have prayed SO hard for you, and we continue to... because your poor sweet Mama and Baba... we have no idea what they are going through... but the Lord does.

    May he give you grace and strength.

    I hate to personalize this, but need to tell you this... just last week we were told that Phebe would probably need minor keyhole surgery to fix her VSD. You know, I knew Phebe would need this and yet, I walked away from that appointment feeling drained and emotional. And then, I thought of you, dear sweet Mary. I did. And I cried for everything you and your family have been through. And I am sitting here crying now, for your sweet Ivy Joy.

    I wish you peace in this storm. I wish for the Lord to wrap His loving arms around your family and give you strength and hope and joy.

    ((hugs)) Praying.
