Sorry If you've been holding your breath for a post. Between the crazyness that has been going on with Ivy and the hotel having Internet problems, I was not able to post. I have a ton of emails, I haven't responded to because we can't use phones on the cardiac floor so please accept my apology! I hope I answer all your questions here tonight.
I'm posting tonight from my phone so no pictures just lots of info. I will put a couple on Facebook in case you need a quick peek at princess stink eye.
So where are we? You know she woke up, she's been pretty low key and in a fog until today. Today her mind is as clear as glass and she is less sleepy. Yesterday we moved out of ICU!!!! Yep, hours after waking up!!!! She is off oxygen, getting bolus feeds at night only, eating 3 meals on her own. She has all chest tubes out. She has a picc line that mommy fought for her to get and sure enough her last IV went bad last night. She is sitting up for a good 10 minutes at a time before she complains of pain. She looks so fantastic!!!
The things we are working on are wet lungs. Very wet. Weakness. She has lost so much weight that she can't stand without quivering. So we are trying to get some weight on her with these extra feeds. Her blood pressure meds are still being tweaked a bit. Her pacemaker gets checked tomorrow. She is not turning her head to her right at all. She had a line there that was just taken out and we think its just very sore, but we have someone coming out to take a look and be sure it's not a pulled muscle or something. She gives everyone the stink eye, here in Boston they call it the hairy eyeball. Anyway, I think tonight she finally forgave me for all of this and she spent the rest of the night in my arms. She took a longer time to go to sleep tonight, another great sign that she is feeling better
Her strength after having 3 open heart surgeries in 6 months, is going to be slow to come. She needs to gain weight, gain stamina and ultimately, she needs time to heal!!
Her chest is quite bowed out due to the 3 openings so close together. Her incision looks wicked fresh and frightening still but it is undressed already and doing fine.
Outside of that, nothing!!!!! She is doing absolutely amazing!!!!!
God's Miracle !
Thank you for continuing to hold Ivy up in prayer .
Mary
Yay, such good news! Glad she (and you!) seem to be doing so well!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad Ivy is doing so well and she continues to be in my thoughts and prayers! We will pray for her strength to build, her lungs to clear, and for her healing to continue!! Thank you for the update.

Praise God for the wonderful news. Thanks for updating us. Will continue to pray for the kinks and for her emotional healing.
ReplyDeleteWe are so thankful to hear such wonderful news about Ivy's progress! We will pray that she continues to make great progress in her recovery and hope that she soon feels better enough to play and smile again! She's one amazing little girl!!!!
ReplyDeletePiper (almost 3) and I continue to pray for Ivy's broken heart but will now add to that!!!! LOVE you all (((HUGS))) from Athens, AL
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy to hear that Ivy is doing so much better. I know it's going to be a long haul, but she's making progress. I look forward to seeing some pictures of your beautiful daughter. I will have to wait on those pictures on here, as I don't know your facebook name.
ReplyDeleteThank you Mary...I feel almost guilty checking for a post as I know you are doing so much. I learned from the last surgery that no posting usually means you are busy with Ivy Joy...so that is good news!!! Our family continues to hold Ivy in our hearts and we continue to pray for her strength to return and for her lungs to be less wet!! Tell those nurses that if they had gone through what Ivy has gone through..they would be giving hairy eyeballs too...although I think they probably know that!!
ReplyDeleteLove and hugs
Kathie
Thank you so much for the update. I have been checking several times a day to see how Ivy is doing. She is an amazing child. Will continue to pray for her healing and strength, plus your and the rest of the family's.
ReplyDeleteWould love to be a friend of yours on FB.
Wonderful update Mary!!! Totally worth waiting for, and btw you don't need to apologize! We know your goal is taking care of and advocating for your baby girl!!! And taking care of yourself too so you can keep taking care of her!

Oh I love the title of this post! Ivy Joy We DO Love you!!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteSo thankful to hear she is out of ICU! That is BIG NEWS!
We will keep praying for her to be strengthened! After our little Kevin had his surgery (and it wasn't near the extent of sweet Ivy's) it took him a good 3 weeks to walk again. Not only was he weak, but he was fearful too, I think. So we will step up the prayers for Miss Ivy and her strength!
So so thankful for God's mercy and healing in her life!!!!!
What great news to start the day with!!! We continue to pray and hope for even more miracles for little stink eye princess!!
ReplyDeleteHi! Our dear friend, Kimberley Byrd, asked for prayer for your Ivy on fb and we've been praying since! We're missionaries in Mexico and have 4 kids (8, 7, 5, 2). They have all been crazy praying for "Baby Ivy and her mama"!! I had mentioned how hard all this was on you, now that your hubby had to go back! :) Even our 2 year old little girl has been praying for "Baby Ivy and for her heart to get all better." And she has translated your request as "and for her mama to get all better, too!" Too sweet- they have prayed all weekend long, so I just had to share that your little girl was being lifted up mightily down here in Oaxaca!! May God continue to receive the glory and honor for His mighty healing of this brave little Ivy!! We all think both your girls look just like little china dolls!! So beautiful!! :) :)
ReplyDeleteAwesome news! I love the "stink eye" part! She's obviously had it with everyone poking at her.
ReplyDeleteWhat a trooper she is. I can't wait to see her blossom in the days and weeks ahead and for you both to be home with your family and enjoying the everyday miracles of life.
So glad to hear all the great news, Mary! Feel bad I couldn't get there to see you on Saturday, but will try to work a visit in before leaving on vacation Saturday. Did you say "wicked fresh"??? Wicked is SUCH a New England term...haha! Love that you used it!
ReplyDeleteHugs
Mary - 3 open hearts in 6mos says it all. I know you know the answer to this but do you know how much that has to take out of her? My dad had OHS and he said it took him about a year to say he felt the same strength, etc as he did before the operation. Ivy is so strong! Such a fighter. I'm praying for lots of calories to go to those little legs and lots of gunk to get out of those lungs. I fell to my knees in a prayer of thanks to see the post with her eyes open! Joy!!! Still thinking of you and praying for Ivy's quick, complete healing every day. Love sent your way.....
